Introducing Cooper Smith Youell

We are so excited to introduce to everyone our new bundle of joy, Cooper Smith Youell. Weighing 7 lbs, 13 oz and 20 inches long, Cooper Smith entered the world at 12:42 a.m. on Friday, February 18th. After a full day of work on Thursday, February 17th, Trey and I made it home around 5 p.m. from Brentwood. David was busy with cases all day and had a dinner planned with his manager Thursday evening. I decided to have mom come up and help me with Trey and then spend the night for my doctor's appointment on Friday morning. She gladly said yes and met us at the house! David came home for a minute to see us and Trey and I played in the backyard kicking the soccer ball and running around. I was having some contractions and had felt like some things were moving and a groovin but didn't seem worried. I thought for sure I could get through working on Friday (I mean I have been SLAMMED at work and David just had one of his busiest weeks at work so not much could happen, right?)! Boy was I wrong! At work that day people were thinking I was going to have him Thursday night as did Mom and Joan. I wanted breakfast for dinner but we didn't have any milk or bacon so Mom ran to the store to pick some up. David was at dinner and so I preheated the oven and Trey and I started folding clothes out of the dryer when my water broke around 7:30 p.m! I called Mom only to learn her that her cell phone was sitting on my kitchen counter. I then texted David to ask when he would be coming home that I thought my water broke and he needed to take me to the hospital to get checked out. Once Mom got back to the house I told her what happened and she said that it was time and that I would be going tonight! We called Aunt KaKa to see if she could come down and Jodi came down to stay with Trey while we went to the hospital. I quickly bathed Trey and I jumped in the shower then put Trey to bed while my body is going crazy and getting ready to give birth!!! Trey could definitely sense something was going on so I just wanted to make sure that he was good to go and taken care of. We then called Big David and Joan (Papaw and Nana) and told them to get in the car and drive on down to Murfreesboro. We arrived at the hospital around 8:30 or 8:45 at MTMC to get checked in. My contractions had started to pick up with more intensity and were happening around 5-7 minutes. Once we got in the room we started getting everything rolling. I quickly asked when I could get an epidural and the nurse told me the anethesiologist was in a c-section and would come in after that. When the nurse first checked me I was dilated to 3 and about 70% effaced. All I can say is that I quickly begin progressing and moved further and further along with contractions happening every 1.5- 3 minutes. Before we knew it the doctor was coming in and I started pushing. After pushing through about three contractions, Cooper Smith made his grand entrance into our world! We are so blessed and God is so good. I am in awe of him and Trey and can't believe our little family is now four strong! We were so excited to have Jodi in the waiting room to take pictures and then Big David and Joan (aka Papaw and Nana) in the parking lot and were able to come in to see their new grandchild!!

An update on Cooper Smith

We were so excited to get to see little Cooper Smith yesterday as I had a doctor's appointment and we had an ultrasound to check the size of our little fella! He is growing like crazy and is looking good! Cooper Smith is estimated at weighing 7 lbs, 15 oz and is in position for his arrival!!! I am feeling pretty good other than being really tired and having several contractions! Cooper Smith still didn't want to show us his face and continued to have his hand over his face so we weren't able to get any good pics!!!

We just ask that you continue to pray for our new baby and our family and we prepare to make the transition from a family of three to an exciting family of FOUR!!

I feel like such a lucky girl these days and this past weekend was no different. Jodi, Amber, Casey and Amy all hosted a little SPRINKLE for us in preparation for Cooper Smith's arrival. It was Casey's idea as it is not necessarily a full on shower for a second time mommy but is more of a celebration and a time to give those items that are essentials- diapers, wipes, lotions, etc. I was so blessed and honored and have many family members and friends in attendance that it was very special for me.

I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have friendships and special bonds with Amber, Jodi, Casey and Amy and that I can share this time with them. Everything was so nice and I am sincerely appreciative.

Just as any second time mom can relate with this statement that, " I am behind on everything in life in preparing for this baby"! I was so on top of it in planning with Trey that I had belly pictures made way in advance. Then a couple of weeks ago I realized that I had not done that for Cooper Smith! How dare me! I definitely wanted to give him the same attention as his big brother was given so Jen Turner was gracious enough to come by our house and get some pictures. Let me just say that I am WAY preggers in these pictures but will always cherish them. Here is a little sneak peak into Jen's blog for you to see!!

On a doctor update note, I went to the doctor yesterday and I am still dilated at 1 which is no change from last week. While you always want to see some progression I was relieved not much had happened as David left for Florida today for his annual sales meeting!! Hopefully I will be in the clear until he returns on Saturday afternoon!!!

Strolling down memory lane

In the midst of moving, working, carrying Trey and being really preggers right now I couldn't help but come across a bunch of picture CDs yesterday after David and I got home from our doctor's appointment to check out Cooper Smith Youell. The first thing I did was show Mom, who was keeping Trey, the pics of her 9th grandchild and then I put in pictures of Trey's ultrasound to see the major resemblance. When I was looking for Trey's ultrsound pictures I came across two CD's that two very special students made for David and I both before and after our wedding. Of course I had to watch those with Mom and just had this crazy feeling come over me looking at pictures of David and I and our families about life. It is crazy that in less than four years of marriage we are going to have two precious baby boys! Looking at those pictures I never imagined our life would be like this. It is crazy and it is hard but it sure is fun and exciting.

Once I can figure out how the heck to get this video uploaded I will post it. The video was made by my sweet, little mini me, Caroline Rutledge for us after our wedding that we gave to each of our parents!

In the meantime please enjoy the Carrie Underwood video about Mama's Song that makes me cry everytime!!My mother prayed that God would send me a man that was equally yoked with me!! Thank you for the prayers Mama!

Little Man #2 has a name and new pics!

After much deliberation (I can't make a decision on anything it seems) we are naming our new little man Cooper Smith Youell. I am excited that he will have my same initials as Trey has David's initials and name and I am still able to keep the family names going. The only issue we are having is what we want to call the little fella. I want to call him Smith and David wants to call him Cooper so if anyone has an opinion on which you like better, I would love to hear it!!

We also went to the doctor today and had a great visit. I am still measuring about two weeks ahead of schedule which is both exciting and scary and the same time. I am feeling very tired and trying to just get everything squared away before our big arrival. Cooper Smith is currently weighing about 5 lbs, 11 oz and is head down. Everything looks normal and healthy so now it is just a matter of time for him to put on more weight and prepare!

I am done traveling right now for work as it really is just too much on my body. My doctor gave me a note today not to travel more than an hour away from home!! All I could sit there and think about was my commute to and from work everyday and how it basically takes me an hour or so each way!!! That would be something if I went into labor going to or from work! I guess I would just drive straight to the hospital! HAHA!

Enjoy taking a look at the pictures of Cooper Smith! He kept his hands up around his face just like Trey did in his ultrasound pics. Needless to say both boys have the same nose, mouth, lips and chin!! Just like their daddy!! I really don't have a dog in this fight put just to be a carrier for Youell boys! I absolutely love it though and maybe if/when we have a 3rd, I will be fortunate to have some of my genes passed down!!

Update on Little Man #2

I seriously can't believe I am 26 weeks pregnant and our 2nd precious angel will be here in late February!! With the holidays really kicking off this week with Thanksgiving I just know the time is going to fly by and I will be wondering where it went in preparation for his arrival. I had a doctor's appointment this past week and the baby was doing extremely well. He is moving around like crazy and has a heart rate around 155. I have been feeling pretty good except for my hips hurting and the horrible sinus infection I had all last week. I finally made it past the morning sickness and I am just enjoying being pregnant!! I love it so much and just hope that David will let me do it one more time! HAHA!! I have some pics of our little guy that I will post soon that are 3D. He looks like his big brother and didn't want to show us his face entirely!!! I guess he is saving an element of surprise for us!!!

You may be asking yourself if we have a name picked out yet for the little guy... Well we are still in discussion about his name so when we have reached an agreement we will let everyone know!!!

We finally got around to having Trey's pictures made this week for the first time in a long time! Trey had not been photographed professionally since 10 months and we have not been photographed as a family since Trey was 3 months old! I just can't believe that much time had gone by! As I stated in my previous post I am trying to get back on the blog bandwagon. In addition to that I am trying to get back up to speed and date with all the milestones of Trey baby and then prepping for arrival of Little little man #2.

The Blog undergoes a makeover!

So after several months and my mother staying on me, I am making a concentrated effort to get back on the blog bandwagon (no way I can ever be as great of a blogger as Jodi) and trying to capture so much that has happened in our lives in the last 6-9 months!!

I will start with the fact that I have decided to change the name of our blog. No longer are we "The life of David, Carrie and Little Man" so I decided to change the name before the new baby arrives in late February. After really not much thought at all I have changed the name to "Through Mommy's Eyes". It is something that just came to me since I have been thinking about the blog alot lately. Everytime a post has ever been made on here I have been the one to write it and I assume that will not change. Most of what I share on here are things from my perspective or a story that I am telling. I also decided on the name after coming to the quick realization that I am the only woman in the family so no other person can share my perspective. Once we found out that we were having another boy I quickly responded with extreme excitement and joy followed by, "Mommy is going to be out numbered"! The sweet girl doing our ultrasound followed up with the fact that I could be princess and David quickly realized that I would be the QUEEN (even better)!

Side note- all of my information is showing that I have changed the name but I don't think it is showing to all of you. I will work on making sure it is correct!

So... with that being said- Welcome to the new layout, my new pregnancy ticker for baby boy #2 (yet to be named) and the new feel of "Through Mommy's Eyes"

One year ago today!!

I can't believe that Trey is actually turning 1 today! I woke up in Texas this morning thinking about every little thing in life that led to the birth of God's Greatest gift to David and I. By the time it was 7 a.m. in Texas I had sung Happy Birthday to Trey about three times along with Memommy. We had been in Texas for Meredith's High School graduation and just so happened to be flying back on Trey's actual birthday. We kicked off Trey's Birthday week in Texas with Mere's graduation party on Sunday and a "Happy Birthday to you" followed by a taste of his first cake!!

To say that David was anxious for us to return was an understatment. I spoke to him multiple times that morning as I think he wanted to make sure we were up and moving and going to make our flight to Nasvhille. As we were packing and getting ready I proceeded to share with Trey about EVERYTHING Mommy and Daddy did the day before he was born and then everything about labor. I feel confidant by the time he grows up and leaves me he will be sick and tired of hearing that story but at least I will feel confidant that he will know how he entered into this world!!

Dressed in his Birthday Boy shirt, we headed for DFW airport and boarded the plane! Immediately after take off, Trey was out and slept the entire way back to Nashville. Amen!! We were excited to be greeted in Nashville by Aunt KaKa, Aunt Amber and cousin Karlee as well! He was a saint in the car on the way home and was able to see his Poppa and Memommy one last time before heading to Knoxville. Upon our arrival to Knoxville, David anxiously greeted the Birthday Boy outside and we were excited that Nana Honey and Papaw were coming down later for dinner and to see the Birthday Boy! They too surprised Trey with a little ice cream cake and so the celebration WEEK was in full swing.

I know all parents feel this way but David and I seriously fall more in more in love with Trey everyday. He amazes us in so many way and we just feel so blessed that he is a happy and healthy one year old ( I can't believe I am saying that)!!

I have been holding out and trying to wait until Trey is 1 to get his 1st haircut. Trey was looking a little scraggly and looked like he did not have a neck so we decided to go ahead and give him a little trim! Memommy has cut so many of her kids and grandkids hair that is only seemed fitting that she give Trey his first cut. He did really good with the help and entertainment of Daddy and looks like a precious little boy!

Trying to play catch up!!

So as many of you can see it has been quite a while since I have posted anything on here. This have been very hectic in the Youell household and time has just not allowed for me to get caught up. I seriously am going to have to take off work to do alot of back blogging as there is so much to document. So I will start by saying that Trey is absolutely awesome! We are totally and completely in love with him and he is growing like crazy. I will post some pics soon of Trey, I PROMISE! In the meantime and in the spirit of back blogging I am going back to where Trey all started. For our 1 year wedding anniversary David and I decided to go to the beach and enjoy some rest and relaxation. I love pictures and wanted to have our pictures made on the beach. We did and had a great time however I never purchased any as they were expensive and then I find out we are pregnant. I never forgot about those pictures and really wanted them it was just not a priority. Flash forward almost 2 years later. David tells me that he received a voicemail on his phone that the photography place at the beach was closing due to economy. I was so bummed as there was no way I would get those pictures. So I am on my work computer one day and I look up the photography studio, send an email (it is rejected) and then find a number and call. The owner happens to answer and was so nice on the phone. She totally remembered us and said that she would send me all the pictures on a CD and the rights to make copies for less than a $100. Now keep in mind this place had packages that were expensive where a 5 X 7 costs about $30. I totally could not resist that and said I want them. I gave her my address and then within days I had the CD of pictures! In the end it totally worked out and now I have my memories of our great beach trip and the start of our little Trey baby!!

Happy Birthday Daddy! Celebrating the BIG 3-0!

We had to unfortunately re-schedule the birthday party for David and Kevin originally planned for January 30th due to the weather on and decided February 7th would be a good day for the make-up party. That also happened to be Super Bowl Sunday and we had rented a cabin for our celebration. Trey had to get in his nap (dreaming about football of course) as we headed to the cabin to set up. We were sad that several people who were originally planning on coming to the original date were unavailable on Sunday but we had a great time celebrating with friends. Trey hung out for a little but until it was time to go night night!!! We hope that David and Kevin have a wonderful birthday and we are so glad to have them in our life!

Trey does not watch much television but he has quite an obsession of the PBS show, SID the Science Kid! When the show begins, Trey becomes in a trance and fixates himself on the television. I absolutely love watching him look at SID as I cannot distract him from the opening song!

Today Memommy turned 70 (shhhh, don't tell her I wrote that on here). I am proud to tell her age as she does not act or look her age. She just so happened to be Knoxville taking care of Trey and Joan came down from Sevierville and the three of us and Trey went and ate at El Charro (our favorite Mexican restaurant) to celebrate! With Trey in his pajamas the servers came around and sang to Mom to ring in the big 7-0!

There have been several times that David and I have gone into Trey's room and have found him standing up about to topple head first onto the floor. In an effort to prevent any major accidents we decided it would be best to go ahead and lower the crib as low as it would go (and bye bye to his adorable bedskirt)! As soon as we lowered it, we put Trey in the crib for a little test and two minutes later he stood up and hit his mouth! I can definitely handle that much better than falling out of the crib!!

My 1st fire!

One of our favorite things to do in the winter is to build a fire; and let's just say there have been plenty of days to enjoy the crackle and roar of a fire during these cold winter days! Trey very much has enjoyed watching the fireplace and has a new fascination with it. We have experienced expressing the word "NO" as he wanders quickly towards the stone wall!

I cannot believe our baby is 7 months old. It really feels like we were just finding out the sex of baby this time last year. On December 30, 2009 my mom as well as David's mom and myself went and ate lunch at Silver Spoon American Cafe and then went to our doctor's appointment where David met us there- that is the day we found out we were having a boy. Exactly one year later, my good friend Rachel Edington (she was also a bridesmaid in our wedding) and I, along we Trey of course went and ate lunch there. Now I have started a tradition that I am obviously going to have to keep up. The following day Trey turned 7 months old. He has 2 teeth, is getting up on all 4 like he is about to crawl and is sleeping through the night. He loves to play and is a very active and demanding child. In the pictures I was singing happy birthday to Trey and of course he started posing for me (he is definitely our child)!

Many of you may be wondering if I have given up blogging but I promise I am just being a horrible procrastinator. I know if I just updated every few days everything would be fine. That would be to easy, right? So now I am going to spend the next few weeks or months back tracking all of our lives on here. Just to update everyone as we begin 2010, we have had a wonderful 2009. The planning and preparing for Trey, his birth, time David and I were able to spend together, and watching our little baby grow and change everyday has been a real blessing for us. David and I are so thankful for Trey and the love he has brought to our lives in 2009. We are truly excited to see what 2010 brings us. Hopefully we will be able to get rid of 1 of 2 homes, take a few trips, become settled somewhere and enjoy our lives as a family. We just trust that God will lead us in the right direction. On December 20th all 3 of us dressed in our finest royal blue to get ready for the New Orleans bowl game where Middle Tennessee took on the Eagles of Southern Miss. We went to lunch that afternoon with Nana, Papaw, Jeffrey and Lexie and returned home to get ready for the game. After a shaky start we were pumped when the Blue Raiders took down the Eagles in the Big Easy 42-32. This was the 2nd time in school history the Blue Raiders had made it to a bowl game but the first for a VICTORY! I will admit that I dozed off some during the game but was so excited about the big WIN! As you can imagine David was thrilled.

For weeks now I have been anticipating Trey cutting a tooth as he drools like you would not believe. I feel his gums daily and wait patiently to see if anything is happening. To my surprise on Monday night David and I were getting Trey ready for his nightly bath when I saw something white in his mouth. I put my finger on his gums and BAM- there was a tooth! It had broken the skin and was coming through. We were so excited. We had Trey so excited as he was smiling and laughing! Children are truly a gift from God. They teach you to truly appreciate the small things in life! David and I just feel so blessed that God has allowed us to experience that! Soon as I get a picture of the tooth I will post it!

Everyday I seriously think how lucky I am to have 2 wonderful men in my life (well one man and one little man). David and Trey bring me so much joy and I must say seeing a David take care of Trey is absolutely priceless. While I do not want to wish the time away I am really looking forward to the day when David and Trey will be able to really play with one another. David always says he does not know what we did without Trey before we had him (and I wholeheartedly agree). I am so glad to have these guys love and take care of me. I hope that I can always be a support system for both of them and be the best wife and mother I can be. These pictures are from Trey's 3 month pictures and will forever be treasured!

At our 4 month appointment with Trey, our doctor had said we could give Trey a little juice if we wanted to. We have waited and I had it in my head that I wanted to try and give him a little bit tonight. Trey made an awful face each time he tried it. He clearly knows where his bottle goes and can grab it and put his baba in his mouth. However this time he just was not feeling the juice. You think he just put a lemon in his mouth based on the faces he was making. I hate our pictures do not fully capture his faces but you can gather some idea. We are just going to have to work on it.

Friday afternoon we were debating on what to do for the weekend. For once we did not have to travel out of town. We obviously cannot sit at home so we decided to drive to Sevierville and have dinner with Joan, AKA Nana Honey. We ended up staying all weekend and coming home on Sunday. Good food, family, friends, fellowship and help with Trey sure does make it easy to stay! On Saturday morning David and I were downstairs with Trey. I had fallen asleep, Trey had fallen asleep on David and all of a sudden we hear Aunt KaKa come in the living room. She and Uncle Joel were in Sevierville from Murfreesboro to spend the weekend since Uncle Joel had been traveling for work. Trey really enjoyed playing with KaKa as you can tell in the pictures. He was a trooper as he had the croup and had lots of people to pay attention to only him. Our spoiled child. At least he comes by in honestly!

Also on Saturday, Big Dave's sister Pam and her husband Larry were in from Ponce de Leon, Florida visiting family. This was the first time they had met Trey and were able to visit for a while! Aunt Devee and cousin Lexie came over as well. You can really see how much weight Devee has lost and how much she and Aunt Pam favor each other. Saturday night Uncle Kevin and Aunt Candace came over as well to watch some football and play with little man!

Trey has been reaching for his feet recently and today he definitely found them. He has been pulling those feet up to his mouth as he likes to put basically anything he can into those chubby cheeks. He is truly a gift from God and a joy to have in our lives. It is so funny how quick I forget those sleepless nights when you get to enjoy watching him learn and grow by doing new things. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them.

Poor Blue Raiders

On Tuesday, October 6th the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders took on Troy University in what was expected to be a good game for Big Blue. Boy were we wrong. Trey even wore is MT get up to school for the anticipation of the ESPN2 game. Hopefully we can recover and beat Mississippi State in a couple of weeks.

Celebrting 10 years... Carrie's High School Reunion

I cannot believe that it has been 10 years since I graduated from Red Bank High School. I have so many wonderful memories from those 4 years and was really looking forward to the event. I did not run for a class officer Senior year as they traditionally plan the reunion and figured that would be a lot for me. However I did end up assisting with a great deal of planning and getting everything ready. The reunion was a 2 day event that began with the Homecoming football game against Central. In addition to the reunion festivities, RBHS had all the former homecoming queens return to participate with the court this year. We walked out onto the field and were announced. I was excited David and Trey were able to meet people and see where I spent so many days and nights! On Saturday, I went to lunch with Amy LeVally whom I regularly keep up with and Morgan Scopetto whom I have not seen in about 8 or 9 years. We then went and decorated for Saturday night's event! Balloons, cake, confetti, superlatives, a DJ, etc. You name it, we had it and I think the event went well. It really was funny that you expect people to be so different. I have to say that while things change, it really is interesting how they stay the same! I was happy that I was able to see some people I have not seen in a while and if you are wondering I did bring home two superlatives- Most school spirit and the girl who lived up to her high school superlative (most popular). We were fortunate to have Casey Stuart Blazek's in laws keep Trey while we went out and celebrated the evening! I did miss my little man and was excited to see him upon our return.

Trey 4 month appt

David and I took Trey to the doctor on Thursday, October 1st for his 4 month check up. He is definitely a growing boy and weighed 16 lbs even and is 25 1/4 ft. long. The doctor thought he was developing great and was even a little ham! He can charm people most definitely. He did absolutely wonderful for the visit right up until the nurse came in to give him his shots. He started screaming crying before she ever started. I think he knew what was coming. He did great and is excited to head to Chattanooga tomorrow for my 10 year high school reunion!

Tonight David and I were getting Trey ready for his nightly bath! He can roll over easily with the help of David and I but tonight he managed to master the art of the roll all on his own!We had him on his belly getting in some tummy time when all of a sudden he starts pulling his legs up and before you know it, he has turned over to his back. Since before Trey was born I knew that I wanted a picture of David Sr, David Jr, and David III. I think there is so much history in learning about other generations and I want Trey to be proud of his name. Whether he is a doctor, athlete, teacher, lawyer or President of the United States, I think he has a strong name that will take him far. The lady (Amy) that photographed our wedding over 2 years ago was gracious enough to photograph Trey even though she typically does not photograph children. I believe her experience in dealing with children in weddings was a plus for us and she will be photographing Trey during his first year of life. Amy was kind enough to come to our home and take pictures one afternoon. We also had Papaw come down to take some 3 generations pictures as well (check out the blog entry for that). Trey was a complete trooper and Amy was so patient with us. As everyone knows, I love pictures and Amy was up for trying whatever I suggested. These truly are priceless memories to me. Enjoy! Trey's 1st Day of School & 3 month check up

Today Trey had his 3 month check up with the doctor and then went to his 1st day of school at Central Baptist Bearden. He had a wonderful check up and is developing well. Based upon his skills and interactions, he is developing as if he was 5 months old. We are so proud of him and have so much fun with our little man. After his appointment we took him the dreaded 1st day of school. I was hoping I was not going to cry but that was wishful thinking. I started to tear up in the room but luckily made it outside. David then started trying to talk to me about what all I had to do at work and what my schedule looked like. I told him to quit taking my mind off of Trey and do just let me cry for a minute. Needless to say I did quit crying but still felt like an awful parent. David went and picked Trey up that day. I absoultely could not wait to find out how he did and was happy to hear things went well!

Celebrating 2 years where it all started!

David and I decided to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary a few days early this year by staying at Riverstone Resort in Pigeon Forge to celebrate our anniversary. For those of you who may not know or just forgot, Riverstone is where we held our wedding reception 2 years ago. We had a wonderful celebration and many fond memories so why not come back to where it started. This time around was a lot more low key but just as much fun. We were able to bring Trey with us and just chill out. This was much needed after a long 2 weeks of recruitment. Trey was able to hang out in the lazy river with his daddy and swim in the indoor pool. Nana came up and had dinner with us one night and then Nana and Papaw kept Trey at the condo while David and I went to eat at the famous Best Italian in Gatlinburg. We had an amazing time and highly recommend this place to those wanting to get away and enjoy a life of luxury. Enjoy the pictures of Trey as we had tons of fun taking them of our little guy!

So it has been over a month since I have posted anything on our blog. I hate being so behind but life has been crazy and I have just not had the time to post. I promise I will catch up on everything as I have tons of pictures to post (I am going to have to back track on my dates and events). The main thing going on in our life right now is I have headed back to work and have been extremely busy. The main thing I can say about going back to work is... I MISS TREY like crazy!! I never thought I would feel like this but when I am away he just grows like a weed. When he smiles at me, my heart just melts and I begin to tear up. Motherhood changes you so much. I totally understand why women need drugs because I am a trainwreck! HAHA. I promise to get back up to speed on my blogging! Stay tuned. I have tons of great pics.

From Texas to Tennessee.. Here come The Stein's

My sister Laura was originally planning on coming to Tennessee from Allen, TX right after Trey was born but they had to postpone the trip until August. David and I were SO excited for Laura, Roddy and the kids to get here that we were counting down the days. They rented a cabin in Wears Valley (in between Townsend and Pigeon Forge)and we were able to visit with them and catch up on what has been way to long since we have seen them. They went tubing in Townsend and white water rafting in North Carolina. We were fortunate in being able to go eat at Pancake Pantry, on a college visit with Meredith to Carson Newman, and eat at lots of great places in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. We were extremely sad to see them leave and hope one day they will live close to us in Tennessee.

This past weekend we had a wedding in Murfreesboro for our friends Rick and Tonya. We decided to stay with Jodi and Chad and catch up with the family and Sophie Jo. David decided to go have a drink we some of this good buddies and the groom to be. That was probably a HUGE mistake as Jodi and I decided to have a little fun with Trey and dressed him up in one of Sophie's dresses. We were laughing so hard! We had to keep the tradition alive as so many years ago Aunt KaKa dressed David up in one of Jodi's dresses. I have to admit that Trey looked so uncomfortable in the dress. I think it is fair to say Trey is all BOY! The next day David was not so happy we put him in a dress but had a great laugh about it. We have realized that putting Trey in his "real" crib is going to be a challenge. We have started putting him in the crib to take a nap and so far have made it no longer than 30 minutes in the crib. Hopefully we will be able to start getting him to sleep in there in the near future. Our doctor has suggested around 4 months of age we start getting him to sleep in his bed. I am sure we will have future stories on here about our successes and struggles! Stay tuned.

After our visit to Atlanta for my summer board meeting, we decided to stop in Chattanooga and visit with Nick and Casey Blazek. As many of you know, Casey is my BFF from high school and this was the first time she and Nick were meeting Trey. Casey adores and loves children so I knew she could not wait to get her hands on him. When we arrived Casey's sister-in-law, Amy Blazek, was there with Baby Emma! Emma had so much fun with Trey and was super animated! Nick and Casey had lots of fun as well interacting with Baby Trey! We are so excited Nick and Casey will be expecting their first baby in February! We will have to see if Trey will have a little buddy to play with or a future girlfriend! HAHA.

I currently serve on the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference Board that plans a leadership academy every year in February for fraternity men in the region. We have a summer planning meeting and travel to Atlanta where the conferenc is held to have our meeting. Being a new mom, I knew I could not leave Trey at home so I loaded up the car (or should I say David did) and off David, Trey and I headed to ATL! Needless to say David was glad the trip was over as Trey cried A LOT- did I mention A LOT! I think he was just out of his element. David and I were extremely surprised when all the guys threw us a baby shower and gave us a Baby Einstein activity center for Trey. It was so sweet and special and I cannot thank those guys enough for their generosity! While in Atlanta we were able to meet up with some friends from MT! Brian Kelly, who was the kicker at MT, and his wife Amanda live outside of ATL and we were able to go have dinner with them. Amanda is in a picture below. She and Brian are expecting a little girl this year! She is going to be beautiful so Trey may just have a future little girlfriend on his hands!

Trey meets his 100 yr. old Great Grandmother Carrie

This was truly a wonderful moment for me as a daughter, granddaughter, and mother. Trey met his 100 year old Great Grandmother Carrie today. This is my only grandparent living and is my father's mother. It is amazing to think they are 100 years apart. I hope I can share with him all I can about Grandmother Carrie as she is the only great grandparent he will ever know. I was able to capture their first moment together and I must say Grandmother handled Trey very well. She was extremely interactive with him and was so excited to see him. Grandmother's nickname for Trey is "Little Rascal" and she always refers to him as that...ALWAYS. Trey is the only great grandson she has so I am fortunate the two were able to meet. Seeing them together was so special. You never expect to see such a drastic age difference. All I could think about was in my Grandmother Carrie's lifetime she has seen so much and Trey is just beginning. Trey's life will be vastly different from Grandmother. You then start to think about how you wish Trey had the opportunity to meet all of his great grandparents. He would have loved them all.

As if Trey has not traveled enough, David and I return from the beach on Sunday and decide to head to my parents house. I guess once you have driven 7 hours a couple more will not hurt you. We stopped in Knoxville, fed Trey and headed to Rock Island. Of course the family was extremely excited to see us and Trey did great. We spent Sunday through Thursday at Mom and Dad's and made a quick trip to Murfreesboro to meet with a realtor to sell our house once again. Trey loved sleeping in his Memommy's arms and he loves for her to sing to him. Trey even made a quick trip to the garden with Poppa and me and down to the pool for a little R & R. We had a great visit and cannot wait for when Trey is bigger and can truly enjpy the beauty of the river.

Trey had several milestones at the beach this week. He graduated from the newborn diapers to a size 1, he started smiling at mommy and daddy and he has discovered his voice. On Thursday, July 2nd David and I decided to go out for a nice dinner at the beach. This was the first time for us to be without Trey. I have to say I felt very lost and very nervous. David handled it a little bit better than I did. We left Trey in the condo with his Nana Honey and Papaw and all the instructions to help Trey feel at ease. We were gone for a total of 2 hours but really enjoyed ourselves. We went to a great seafood place and when we arrived back at the condo Trey was still sleeping just as I had left him! I had to wake him up to give him his last feeding. All in all the evening was a success. David and I laughed though as our conversations have really changed now. We basically spent the entire night talking about Trey and I only had him call his parents once!! HAHA

I love taking pictures and have realized I will not be in very many anymore since I am the one taking them all the time. We had taken Trey down to the pool area in his stroller for a walk. He loves to be outside. It must calm him or the blue skies grab his attention. While at the beach we celebrated Lexie's 12th birthday and decided to cookout. I know people probably thought we were crazy having a 1 month old at the beach but I promise you he did not go out in the sun during the day. We did take him out a couple of times around 7 in the morning and in the evening. I just could not resist getting his picture in the water. He did well with me putting him in the baby carrier for the first time and usually fell asleep. I think he found comfort in me walking and brought back memories of when I was always bouncing him around in the womb. Our friends in Murfreesboro, Rick and Tonya, had bought Trey a bathing suit right after we found out he was a boy and we were able to have him model it for all of you! Enjoy!

MYRTLE BEACH HERE I COME!
So it is not often that David's father wants to leave his recliner but the family was lucky enough when Big Dave mentioned last week he wanted to go to the beach. To make a long story short Big David mentions this on a Monday or Tuesday, by Friday, June 27th we book a place in Myrtle Beach and on Saturday, June 28th we leave. It was crazy. I thought I can sit at home with Trey in Knoxville or I can sit in a condo on the beach with Trey. Let me think...Option 2 sounds pretty good. David and I drove back from Murfreesboro late Friday night from our QUICK visit and arrived in Knoxville around 2:30 a.m. I told David to go to sleep since he would be driving, I fed Trey and got him to sleep, and then I stayed up and started packing all night long. I was going to have to be up anyway for Trey's 1 month check up at 7:45 a.m. I am so glad I did that because otherwise we would have never made it to Myrtle Beach. Trey did excellent traveling as he loves riding in his car seat. We arrived at the beach around 7 p.m. Saturday night ready for a wonderful week.

I cannot believe that David and I have a 1 month old. My how time flies but we feel so blessed and lucky to have Trey. He is such a joy and God has blessed up with a beautiful and healthy baby boy. Trey had a wondeful check up this morning. He weighs 9 lbs, 10 oz. and is 21 inches long. He is strong and everything looks great. Trey enjoys eating, pooping, crying (he is especially good at that), sleeping, traveling, and staring at lights. He really loves his mommy and lifting his head up!! Now I just have to get his 1 month pictures done!

The day David played in the golf tournament I had the opportunity to go and visit with David's Aunt Karen and Uncle Joel. Aunt KaKa as we call her because David used to call her that when he was little was so excited to see Trey. She had not seen him since the day she was born and when she held him again she said her heart just melted. I think because she looks at Trey and sees so much of David in him it brings back many wonderful memories. Aunt KaKa and Uncle Joel have 3 girls- Jodi, Amber and Morgan so David is like their little boy. They have followed him all throughout sports all the way to MTSU and love to cut up with little David. Also during the day I went to Target and bought Trey some sunglasses for our trip. He is absolutely adorable in them. And we had a visit from Aunt LiLi (Jena Gaines). She was a bridesmaid in our wedding and we are sorority sisters. She brought Trey a present of Ole Miss outfits (where she works) and a blue polo outfit for MTSU games!!

David played in a golf tournament in Murfreesboro recently and David and I went and visited with Aunt Amber, Uncle James and cousin Karlee! This is the first time they have seen Trey since the day he was born. We had a wonderful dinner and fellowship and then Amber and James let David and I go to bed and they played with Trey and put him to sleep. That was so thoughtful and David and I appreciated it so much getting that little extra bit of sleep. Amber and James also remembered real quick what is was like in those early weeks with Karlee and not getting much sleep and having to be so attentive to a newborn. The next morning we were able to get some great pictures of Karlee and Trey!! Trey has had 3 girl cousins that have been born this past year so he has lots of protecting to do when it comes to his cousins!!

David celebrated his first Father's Day waking up with Trey and I. Unfortunately Saturday night was not uniterrupted but David was just fine with that. We woke up and David opened his cards from Trey, myself and my Mom and Dad. We ate breakfast and then David had to jump in the shower and get ready to head back to Kingsport for some more football with SCHS. Trey and I hung out with Nana Honey and Papaw until David returned. I was able to take some wonderful pictures of David and Trey and even took the first pictures of DAVID I, II, AND III!! Enjoy! And Happy Father's Day to all the men out there and the men in my life!

On Thursday, June 18th Trey and I left for Memommy and Poppa's house in Rock Island and let me just say I was so glad to arrive. Who knew how stressful it would be making sure I had everything. David had left super early that morning for Tri-cities so that meant I had to pack the car all by myself. I had almost packed our bags the night before so I just needed to time everything between his feedings and naps. We woke up, I fed him, burped him, changed him, dressed him, put him to sleep. I then was able to get dressed and start loading the car. By the way you can't put much in car with a stroller that takes up the whole trunk. David and I know are discussing the possibility of an SUV!! Stay tuned for that one. So by the time I was worn out walking up and down the stairs and making sure I had everything, Trey was up and ready to eat again. I paused to feed him, burp him, change him, and put him back to sleep. He gets a small nap first thing in the morning and then will sleep a decent amount on his 2nd nap. This time I put him in his car seat to sleep so I could break down the pack n play and put it in the car. That was a project as I did not put the thing together. After finally getting on the road (had to make a few detours along the way) I was not even out of Knoxville and he was crying ready to eat AGAIN. I fed him in the back seat of the car while I ate my Wendy's chicken nuggets and fries. I burped him, changed him and put him back in the car seat. On the road again we went only to hit a down pour and severe thunderstorm. It was so bad I could not see the road. I was so nervous with him in the car I pulled off in Kingston to wait for the storm to pass. My 2 hour trip seem to take forever and when I arrived to Mom and Dad's house, Mom took Trey and I slept for 2 hours with a killer headache!! Thursday night Trey was up for a decent amount of time but was good to go on Friday. We went out for a ride to Cookeville. It was so stinking hot I went in to Belk's to the restroom to feed him. On our way back to Mom's house, I stopped in Sparta to go pick up some things at Walmart. By the time I had come back out to the car, Mom had changed Trey's diaper twice, his outfit once and his umbilical cord had finally come off. It was an eventful trip. Uncle Kipper is obsessed with Trey and wants to hold him all the time. He can't quite figure out why Trey has to eat so often and sleeps so much. He will understand one day when he has children of his own. Our trip back on Saturday was much easier as I had help loading the car and did not have to do it all by myself. Trey and I did have to make one stop on our way from Rock Island to Sevierville and that was by the house in Knoxville. I thought I was going to be able to make it all the way to Nana Honey's house and then Trey starts screaming right before our exit so I stopped by the house and fed the little man, burped him, changed him, and on the road we went. David was there to greet us and unpack the car with all our belongings. I was so glad to see David and our little family be back together again!! It was a nice ending to the Saturday before Father's Day!!

Trey's 3rd week of life

I cannot believe Trey is in his 3rd week of life. Time truly does fly. My days have definitely been running together being at home all the time. Many of you know that I am a go getter and always doing something. This is all very new to me and before I know it it is 6 p.m. and the day is gone. Eat, sleep, pee, poop, cry- that is the routine David and I experience!! But I must say we love it and would not change it for the world. Trey is absolutely precious and God had blessed us in so many ways. I can really tell this week Trey has started feeling out. I notice it the most at night when I am just staring into those eyes and chubby cheeks how much he has grown. It is crazy. He has really long legs and arms and big feet!! I could just eat him up!! HAHA. So this week I spent my first full day all by myself with Trey on Monday. We did really well and I actually did alot around the house. When David came home though, I was so tired. I did not eat lunch til 2:30 and finally took a shower about 4 p.m- I had the shower curtain half open to listen for the little guy. Let me just say it does a number to your nerves as you want everything to be just perfect. On Tuesday we drove up to Sevierville to pick up our car we were having some work done on. We stopped by Sykes and Wynn to show off Trey to all the people Nana works with. They were so excited to meet him. On Wednesday I took Trey over to my office to see our secretary, Miss Penny, and our building staff, Eddie and Loretta. They were so excited to see Trey and just fell in love with him. I am glad they will be around to play with our little guy as he grows up! On Thursday, David had to go to Tri- cities to do some stuff and was then helping out with Sevier County High School football on Friday and Saturday. Since I did not want to be home by myself I decided to take Trey over to my Mom and Dad's house for a couple of days. We had a wonderful time but I was exhausted by the time I arrived. That trip needs a whole post by itself!!! We ended the weekend by driving to Sevierville on Saturday to meet Daddy who had been in Kingsport for football stuff. Daddy was in the driveway to greet us as he had had 2 whole night of uninterrupted sleep- lucky David!!

I can't believe that Trey is already 1 week old and we are home!! We had an eventful 1st week of life and his 2nd week of life is no different. This week we decided to get out a little bit and ride around. No we did not go into stores and all that but we did get out and ride around with Trey in the car. On Monday, June 8th Trey and I rode with Daddy to Sevierville to get Daddy's suits altered again. Trey did so good and slept most of the time. I fed him in the car while David was in the store. It is amazing how much longer it takes to go anywhere now since we have to wait and finish feeding him before you can start driving again. Memommy came back up here for a few days to help out so on Tuesday we went out for a ride to Townsend to look at cabin rentals for my sister Laura who will be coming to visit in August with her husband and children. We are so excited for them to visit and see Trey!! Tuesday evening Rachie Rach came by to visit and meet Trey. Rachel was one on our bridesmaid in the wedding and she can't wait to take Trey for a run in his jogging stroller! On Wednesday all the Panhellenic Recruitment team and Kristina came by to meet Trey and have pizza. He slept most of the time and they were so excited to see him! We hung out at the house the rest of the week and I had the opportunity to run to the grocery store to pick up a few things and then to Babies R Us. It was super nice to get out of the house and luckily Trey slept with Daddy the whole time I was gone! I was worried I was going to get a phone call that a little boy was having a screaming fit! On Friday I left David again to run over to campus to say goodbye to my supervisor, Ron Laffitte. He is leaving UT to take a new posistion in South Carolina as the Dean of Students. UT is surely going to miss him as he was so wonderful to meuand our students. After returning back from campus David and I decided to drive to Sevierville for dinner at Nana Honey's and Papaw house. This was Trey's first trip to their house and we were greatly anticipating the arrival of Jodi, Chad, and little Sophie Jo that evening. Dinner was great and Trey did well. We came back home late Friday night and Trey had a pretty rough night Friday. He was up quite a bit and David and I were tired!! We made it through the night, hung out at the house, had Jodi and Chad come by with Sophie and ate dinner. Our neighbors brought us by dinner which was extremely nice and we are so appreciative to have that perk in our condo building!! So Sunday morning we wake up and anticipate the clock reaching 8:09 a.m. at which point Trey is officially 2 weeks old!! We decided to drive back to Sevierville that afternoon for lunch with the family (typical Sunday) and grilled out burgers and hotdogs. Trey also had his first walk in the neighborhood with the jogging stroller. It is so hot right now so we have to be careful of when we have him out. I unfortunately was roasting in my denim shorts. I have to go buy some workout shorts that FIT!!! Enjoy the pictures as we love taking them!!

Saturday, June 6th

Back to the doctor again. We woke up early and headed to Children's Hospital to have the quick test completed. Trey has done extremely well with having his foot poked everday for the past 3 days. We had an awesome doctor's visit today as Trey weighed in at 7 lbs, 13 oz and his jaundice was starting to get better. Just as the doctor anticipated, his billy rubin level had peaked the day before and now was getting better. We no longer needed to supplement unless we felt we needed to as he was getting everything from me. Thank the Lord everything was good with him. As for me, I was starting to feel better in such as short time. As I mentioned, gotta love aquarium salt!! We just enjoyed the rest of the day and had Uncle Travis and Aunt KiKi stop by for a visit. They even brought us Krispy Kreme doughnuts- hot and fresh- to enjoy. We quickly indulged in those and enjoyed every minute of it.

Friday, June 5th

Today was a rough day- especially for me!! We headed back to the doctor to have the test done again regarding Trey's jaundice. After having is foot poked again David and I went home with our little guy. For the past week I have had a extremely difficult time sitting down, standing, turning, etc. I had had about all I could take and decided to call my doctor since everything I was told to do to heal was not really working. My doctor was so nice and was able to see me within 45 minutes of me calling. So David and I loaded up with Trey and headed to my doctor while we were waiting to hear the results from Trey's test. Thank goodness I saw the doctor on today. Otherwise I may not have made it through the weekend!! To spare you the details I had to be put on an antibiotic and the doctor told me some things I could do to help. All I am going to say is thank the Lord for aquarium salt and the bathtub!!! As we were leaving my doctors office we received a call from Trey's doctor that his billy rubin levels were elevated even more so we were going to have to visit the doctor on Saturday morning to have the test done one more time. The doctor was confident his jaundice had peaked and would start getting better but we take every precaution and were going to repeat the test once again. Once we made it home we were tired and tried to get some rest and get ready to enjoy the weekend!! Enjoy the pictures of Trey in his lamb swing. Thursday, June 4th

Today we woke up early to make it to the doctor's office by 9:00 a.m. for Trey's first appointment. We are taking him to Knoxville Pediatrics Associates and have been impressed with the doctors we have met so far. Today he weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz and measured right under 20 inches long. He had a great check up and is healthy but he still has his jaundice. He had his billy rubin (if that is how you spell it) test done as a result of the jaundice. The nurse pricks the heel of his foot and draws blood. If the number is elevated we may have to do some phototherapy and put him in the light to help with the yellow. Later in the afternoon we received a phone call from the dr. office saying his BR levels were elevated and for us to come back tomorrow and have the test done again on Friday so that was our plan! Anything for our little man!! Other than that Trey is healthy, happy and eating very well!! We were excited to have some visitors come by and see us today. Aunt Marsha and Uncle Jimmy (Big Dave's brother and his wife) came by to see the little guy and definitely said he was a YOUELL!! We also had Uncle Kevin and Aunt Can Can stop by after they had dinner at PF Changs (David gladly ate their leftovers!!) Enjoy the pictures!! I sure do enjoy taking them!

Wednesday, June 3rd

Today was to be our scheduled induction!! Fortunately we did not make it to today!! It was extremely nice waking up at home and not in that uncomfortable hospital bed. Trey had a big day as his Papaw came by to see him Wednesday morning, Nana Honey came by this afternoon, and David and I gave Trey his first bath at home!! Trey is doing well but we have noticed that he is getting a little jaundice. We have our first doctor's appointment tomorrow so we will have them check it out. When Trey left the hospital he weighed 7 lbs, 5 oz so he had not lost that much weight which is great. I am breastfeeding but we have supplemented a little so he can get all the possible nutrients. He has been sleeping really well and I have been trying to nap. It is super nice having my mom here as encouragement and of course David is doing great. He has naturally just ran with the father role which is so special to see. I feel so blessed to have help and the support of a wonderful husband and father. David is not a very patient man but has demonstrated a tremendous amount of patience. He always tells me that I have taught him to be more patient but really I think it is Trey!! I must say that he looks just like his daddy too!! I am not sure he has anything of mine besides MAYBE my eyes. It is like looking in the mirror of David and Trey. He definitely is a YOUELL. I know I have to have some part in this along the way. Maybe some dimples will pop out in the near future!! HAHA!! Enjoy checking out our pictures!!

Tuesday, June 2nd

Today we get to go home!! Very exciting but very scary at the same time. I had not even been out of the hospital room the whole time so I was eager to get up and get going. David and I were still exhausted but felt more rested since the nurse took Trey for several hours so we could rest. We were also very anxious as today Trey was having his circumcision this morning. Seems odd they do the circumcision the day you leave the hospital. Its not as if we have not been through enough already and then BAM- we are going to do this to your little boy and then send you home! Good luck. Fortunately Trey did great and slept pretty much the whole day. He didn't even realize he had his first wheelchair ride, elevator ride, car ride, or introduction to the outside world. It was extremely HOT outside today so David and I were ready to get him home and out of the heat. Once we arrived home, my mom was there to greet us. She had picked up the house and was cooking dinner. She even bought me a beautiful orchid for being a new mommy. I guess my adrenaline was really going today so I did not even take a nap. I have really need to get better on this nap thing when Trey naps. We are so glad to be home and hope the rest of the week is very successfull with our new little man!!

Monday, June 1st

Trey was up early and we were on a mission to continue feeding. After a long night, David and I were super exhausted and I was in major pain. The nurse started giving me pain medicine in the middle of the night and it made me drowsy. Papaw came by to see Trey about 8:15 a.m. and the nurse came in shortly after to take him to see the pediatrician. We had a great report from the doctor and then Trey had another visitor that came by to conduct a hearing test all newborns must do. The nurse had to attach all these monitors to him that pick up his brain waves! He passed his first test with flying colors!!! Memommy arrived around 9:30 a.m. this morning and that helped David and I get some rest. Papa Ken and Uncle Kipper came today to see Trey and were so excited about him. While they were there I jumped in the shower (it felt so good) and tried to wake myself up a little. Nana Honey and Aunt KaKa came by and brought cousins Jeffrey and Lexie while Aunt Devee was having surgery. We also had Aunt Jodi and cousin Sophie Jo drive over from Murfreesboro to spend some time with us and Uncle Travis and Aunt KiKi stopped by as well. By the time everyone had left, I was worn out. The pain medicine was knocking me out so David watched Trey while I slept for a couple of hours. We were able to have a peacful evening just the three of us and enjoy spending time together. We were even fortunate to have the nurse take Trey out of the room for about 4 hours to help us sleep!! That was a major blessing!!

Trey had a great first day of life today. In addition to his Memommy being present at his birth and his Nana Honey, Papaw and Aunt Devee being there, many people came to visit Trey today including his Aunt KaKa and Uncle Joel who drove in from Murfreesboro, Aunt Amber and Uncle James with cousin Karlee who drove in from Clarksville (they were visiting James' family), Uncle Kevin and Aunt Can Can and Kevin's mom Shirley. David and I both were so exhausted from being up all night and were trying to just figure everything out. We started breastfeeding today and Trey did fairly well with it. We also had a milestone as David changed his very first diaper EVER. And it wasn't just any diaper- Trey pooped and David did great changing him. Once he was all cleaned up and David was about to put the clean diaper on, Trey gave Daddy a surprise and started pooping again!! It was great!I was not able to hold him very much today as he was being passed around alot so that evening I was able to bond with my little man and just be with David which was very nice. Sunday night Trey was getting ready to go to sleep in his crib in our room and he spit up a little. David and I looked at each other with a nervous look thinking how were we ever going to be able to sleep but luckily we made it through the night and the nurse was gracious to take Trey for a couple of hours so we could get some sleep. First time we were able to sleep after being up for over 24 hours. Being a parent is an instant fulfillment. Who ever thought you could love someone so much. David and I are so blessed to have the support of one another and the blessing of Trey.

After our Friday dr. appt, I was feeling quite bummed so David and I decided along with my mom to do something fun on Saturday and get out of the house. Saturday, May 30th we headed to Sevierville to see David's parents. We did a little shopping- David had to get his 2 new suits fitted, I went to Carter's and picked up Trey a couple of things, walked around Five Oaks alot, went to Belk's twice, went to the grocery store, and went back to David's parents house. KiKi and Travis came over and we grilled out steaks, ate baked potatoes, and salad. I ate way too much (more than normal) and was exhausted. We arrived back in Knoxville around 10:30 p.m. Mom rubbed my feet and back and then I went to bed for a good 30 minutes shortly after 11 p.m.!! Then all the fun began. I woke up thinking David was shaking- but nothing, I checked to see if my water had broke- but nothing. Then I felt a different kind of contraction. I woke David up as I had to get out of the bed. I went and told mom who had not been asleep at all. At this point the contractions were 10 minutes apart and quickly went to 5-6 minutes apart. We left for the hospital around 1:30 a.m. Thank goodness not many people were on the interstate. Even in the midst of my pain I had to tell David to slow down. Once we arrived at the hospital I was 2 cm and in consistent pain. Around 3:30-4 a.m. I was given the epidural- THE BEST THING EVER- and was able to relax. At that point I was super exhausted but knew I had to save my strength. I progressed quickly for my first pregnancy and things were good to go around 7 a.m. but doctors had to tend to another patient. After not much pushing, Trey entered this world at 8:09 a.m. weighing 7 lbs, 8 oz. and 20 inches long! They were able to get him out quickly as the cord was around his neck! Before he was even out he was crying! He is absolutely precious and David and I just adore him. We are so thankful for all the prayers and happy that Trey is healthly. God is good!! Trey just is not ready yet!!

It has been a couple of weeks since I last posted as I was hoping my next post would be about the birth of our son!! Well our little guy is just not ready to make his appearance quite yet and to say I am anxious and uncomfortable is an understatement. As of today, we are three days past due, still dilated at 1 cm, cervix is thinned out, and making about 75 trips to the restroom per day!! David and I went to the doctor on Tuesday, May 26th (Trey's official due date) and on Friday, May 29th for follow up visits. Today we had a non-stress test on the baby and an ultrasound. We are thankful and happy to report that Trey is doing just fine. So great in fact he is just not ready. He is estimated to weigh 7 lbs, 7 oz (plus or minus a pound). His fluids are great as is his heartrate and breathing. I am so blessed he is doing well but SOOOOO ready for him to get here. Everytime I stand up I feel he is going to fall out!! HAHAHAHA!! Our next step in the process is an induction. We are planned to induce on Wednesday, June 3rd if he has not made his entrance yet. My hope is I will go before then on my own but we shall see. Casey and Amy come to visit

This past weekend David and I were able to get some things done around the house. I was also treated to a manicure and pedicure (no ugly nails allowed in the hospital). In addition Amy and Casey drove up Saturday afternoon from Chattanooga to see us and to visit for a little bit. We had a great time and laughed alot as usual. Kevin and Candace came down also and we all went to dinner!! El Charro Mexican is a Knoxville favorite of David and I so we take alot of people there. Kevin and Candace love it too so it all worked out!! Sunday I slept in- we missed church though- but the sleep was much needed. I was able to purchase some last minute picture frames for Trey's nursery and then we went to Sevierville for lunch!! Yum Yum- Aunt Karen's chicken 'n dumplins!!! I am a sucker for southern cookin!!!

David and I received plain white onesies as a gift and suddenly my creative mind started going as to what I could put on each of them. With the help of Hayley, Kaitlin, Caitlin, Dena, Allie and Lindsay (The Panhellenic Recruitment Team at UT) we came up with ideas for Caitlin to embroider on Trey's onesies. Caitlin works at a monogramming shop in the mall that her family owns and was kind enough to do this for us. While Hayley lost out on the color GOLD I think she was pleased with what we came up with!! I absolutely love the personalized stuff and hope you do to!!

Time sure flies when you are having fun!! We cannot believe that we are 2 weeks out from Trey's due date. It is absolutely a miracle to think this beautiful human has been growing inside of me for almost 9 months and will soon enter our crazy world. David said to me on Sunday night that he wishes I would go into labor this week! I stopped real quick asking him why. His answer was because he is just ready for Trey to get here. I thought that was so sweet. I am lucky to have a husband that is so willing to do whatever is needed and is SO excited about the birth of his first born. Well needless to say we are not in labor YET but we are also not through the week. Wednesday, May 13th was our 38 week appt. This was a BIG day as the doctor checked to see how exactly I was progressing. Well the news is in and I am dilated 1 cm and 70% effaced. I am definitely having Braxton Hicks but nothing that has shown any real consistency or anything that leads me to believe I am in REAL labor. Time will tell as to how I change and progress. Stay tuned!! Oh and yes you better believe we drove through Krystals afterwards!!!

I get to celebrate Mother's Day too!!

On Saturday, May 9th, my Mom or should I say Memommy now came to visit David and I. She stayed 2 nights with us so we were able to spend Mother's Day together with David's family in Sevierville. Mom brought me some of my baby clothes and my baby blanket which I hope Trey can use (it is gender neutral). We went to church on Sunday and heard a great message and then headed to Sevierville for a cookout at David's parents house. The day was relaxed and I enjoyed celebrating with David, my mother, and mother-in- law. I received some very nice cards that definitely made my heart smile and I will greatly cherish as I celebrated my 1st Mother's Day!!

When we returned home Sunday evening, David was back to work again putting together a Little Lamb swing the collegiate chapter and alumnae chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at UT gave us as baby gift!! Mom had to offer assistance as she helped put one of these together for Aunt Julia and Miss Charlotte! We can't wait to put Trey in his swing!!

A big shopping day!!

This past weekend David and I did some last minute shopping and prep for Trey!! Babies R Us and Target here we come!! We started out Saturday morning at 10:07 a.m. to visit the car seat checkpoint. We wanted to make sure everything was in place and installed correctly for our little bundle of joy!! After navigating Knoxville for 45 minutes around some race we made it to the location. We sat literally in the car with everyone else in Knoxville in the rain for 2 1/2 hours before we were able to get checked. It was well worth the wait though! We actually learned some things and now we are ready for Trey to be stylin in his car seat Aunt KaKa, Aunt Amber, and Aunt Jodi, Aunt Morgi and families gave Trey!

Afterwards David and I were on a shopping spree. We picked up the pack n play, paci, changing pads, nursing supplies, diaper genie, etc. you name it we had it on the list!! David has seen his challenges with putting all this stuff together. We now have a new appreciation for parents around Christmas time and birthdays in navigating through directions!! Saturday night David was exhausted- the pack n play did him in!! But really we wouldn't have it any other way becuase it is all for TREY!!

Trey goes to the baseball game

Last Friday, David and I went to the UT vs. South Carolina baseball game with KiKi and Travis!! Kristen is a HUGE USC fan (her alma mater) and Travis bleeds orange so that always makes for lots of fun!! Between $1.00 hotdogs and beautiful weather we were able to see several homeruns and a grand slam. We left the game early and went to Cancun's to hang out!! I opted for water on the rocks while the other three had a few cold beers on the patio with chips, salsa and cheese dip. I have had one REALLY BAD epsiode of heartburn and indigestion after eating lots of salsa so I steered clear of the salsa but definitely enjoyed the cheese dip!!

The Youell Obsession

I think we have started a new tradition and I think I could submit this for a Krystal's story!! Since I have started going to the doctor every week now, I tend to have my appointment around lunch time. David and I are always hungry afterwards so we frequent the local Krystal in close proximity to the hospital. We both have always carried a special place in our heart for KRYSTALS!!! Even in college when we would leave Murfreesboro to drive to Sevierville we stopped by our other girlfriend, Krystal, on the way out of town. That is what we referred to Krystals for some reason. Well being pregnant has not changed my love for the cheese Krystal and for the past three weeks straight we eat Krystals after we go to the doctor. I must not fail to mention that when I have been to dr. appts by myself and head back to work it was not uncommon for be to swing through the drive-thru and get one to go!!!

The nursery furniture arrived and we went to the DR!

I have been ON EDGE about the remainder of our baby furniture arriving in Franklin, Tennessee. We ordered this furniture in January and for the past couple of weeks I have been calling USA Baby to find out where in the heck is our armoire! Luckily David had picked up the crib in February so we were able to get the bedding in order. We were told April 27th the furniture would be shipped out but no one could tell us when it would arrive. To our surprise Tennessee has had rain rain and more rain so the question remained- Once the furniture arrived would it ever clear up for us to pick it up. On late Friday afternoon, May 1st we recieved a phone call from USA Baby the armoire had arrived!! Praise the Lord. We may have this nursery completed before Trey arrives. David watched the forecast and we had a clear radar on Tuesday, May 5th. He was so awesome to drive to Nashville and pick up the furniture, check on the Murfreesboro house (and he cut the grass), drive back, have Kevin Moon come over and help him unload the furniture, and move a couch to my office that the students bought from me- All in a days work!! He was definitely ready for a Cinco de Mayo Corona after all that!! He then spent all last week putting furniture together and has become a real handy man around the house!

On Wednesday, May 6th we had our 37 week appt. This week we met with Dr. Shirk. He is a super nice man and is always willing to answer any question we have. My strep B test came back negative, I am measuring right on target, and Trey's heart rate continues to be in the 140s. We feel super blessed in so many ways and hope you will enjoy taking a look at the pictures of David's work. I really cannot take credit for this at all!!

TREY has a BIG DAY!! Our 36 week doctor appt.

David and I went to the doctor for my 36 week appointment at 10:15 a.m. on April 29th. We knew this was going to be BIG appointment as they were going to do an ultrasound to check and see Trey's posistion as well as how much we anticipate he is weighing. We are happy to report Trey is doing great! He is already head down and in place. The doctors anticipate he is weighing 6 lbs, 2 oz. and is a pretty active little guy. We heard his heart beat which is in the 130s and we even had the chance to see him in 3D. David asked the tech to try and get a picture of his nose. Once he heard that, Trey quickly threw his hand up covering his face somewhat. Hopefully everyone can get some idea of what he looks like. Based on the pictures he seems to have chubby cheeks, thick lips, and no hair (except for a small patch). The doctor anticipates he will weigh at least in the high 7 lbs. or 8 lbs!! Our next visit is May 6th so stay tuned for more updates. We are getting extrememly excited and even happier Trey is healthy!! Thanks to everyone who has and continues to pray for our family!!

Meeting new people!

Recently Trey has had the opportunity to meet some very important people! We recently traveled to Murfreesboro to check on the house after the tornadoes hit. While in town, we were able to go meet Hudson Grant Victory born in March to our friends Marcus and Jackie Victory. Hudson and Trey will hopefully get to play together in the very near future. We then headed over to campus to cheer on the Blue Raiders in the annual Blue and White game! Then at work we kicked off our annual Greek Week with a Meet 'n Greet with new UT Head Football coach, Lane Kiffin. You can see the pictures of Trey and I with Jackie and Hudson and Coach Kiffin and Trey and I. You will notice I am sporting the blue and orange in both pictures!

For Easter Sunday, David and I attended Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church where we have been visiting recently for church service. The service was great and Bruce Pearl, Head Basketball coach for the UT Men's basketball team, was sitting about 3 rows in front of us. After church David and I headed to Sevierville for Easter lunch with his parents and family! As always we ate way too much and enjoyed a beautiful day. David and I just can't wait to be able to dye Easter Eggs and make an Easter basket for Trey next year!!

Look what we learned in Delivery class

On Saturday, April 11th David and I attended a special delievery class at Baptist West Hospital to learn the ins and out of labor and delivery, caring for the baby, everything postpartum, etc. It was definitely eye opening as we were able to see a real life birth! This definitely made everything real for us. We also were able to hear from a pediatrician and learn how to change a diaper and swaddle the baby. I hope you enjpy watching David practicing swaddling Ted E. Bear!!

UT Baby Shower

On Wednesday, April 8th the Division of Student Affairs and Dean of Students threw a baby shower for the 4, yes that's right- the 4 women in the division who are all expecting. Three of us are due in May and the other in July!! Funny thing is, all of them are expecting little girls except for me!! Needless to say Trey is going to have lots of little girlfriends and play dates as well as babysitters with all the sorority women!! Check out the pictures with us at the shower!! On Saturday, April 4th, the sorority women held a shower for me in the AOII suite!! I could not have asked for better weather nor could I have asked for such a wonderful shower!! I can't wait to see all the pictures the women took as I only have a few. The past Panhellenic Presidnet Kristina, the current Panhellenic President Hayley, and the Panhellenic graduate assistant Dena were the hostesses of the shower and invited exec members, advisors, and chapter presidents. Trey's Memommy and Nana Honey were also in attendance (mom had eye surgery 2 days earlier)! We had wonderful food prepared by the ladies, opened presents, and played an interesting game with baby food! I am going to have make sure I am selective with Trey's baby food. Let's just say that broc, carrots and cheese are not the most tasty!! Trey received his first UT outfit that he will wear during orange and white night of recruitment and received many nice gifts from so many generous people!! He also received an cute little AOII panda and "an AOII loves me" onesie from the ladies of AOII. I am most grateful for everyone's encouragement and enthusiasm centered around Trey's entrance into the world!! We are going to have lots of babysitters to give him lots of attention and love!

My 32 week appt!!

On March 30th I visited the dr for my 32 week appt!! I feel very blessed everything is moving along smoothly as the report was positive. Trey's heart rate is averaging between 147- 152 based on his last 2 check- ups and he is measuring right on track. As of today, I have gained a total of 22 lbs and I am gaining about a 1 lb. a week! I definitely feel as though I have gained much more than that but Dr. Shirk says I am doing just fine. You always feel so good when you receive the positive feedback!! Our next dr. appt is April 14th. After that visit I will start going every week!! The countdown is definitely on!!

Trey makes a road trip to Atlanta with lots of Sorority women

I guess you could say I made my last BIG trip until Trey's arrival to the Southeastern Panhellenic Conference (SEPC) in Atlanta, GA March 26- 29th!! We took 27 women from UT along with Jim (fraternity affairs advisor), Dena (our Panhellenic graduate assistant), and Erin (a graduate student who works in housing) via charter bus to our annual women's leadership conference. I must say we had a blast as the women earned lots of awesome honors and awards but I was tired!! The sorority women are great helping me carry things and I forever grateful. We also were able to spend some time with Jena, Caroline and Gent-ry!!! I was glad to be back home to David but had a blast as always! I am a sucker for conferences!!

Busy weekend for the nursery!

This weekend Daddy David was super busy prepping the nursery for Trey! After choosing a color to paint his room, David started Friday afternoon on the trim for the room and Trey's Nana Honey and Papaw came down on Saturday morning to help. So by Saturday afternoon Trey had his blue room (or should I say I had my blue room). When David and I moved into the condo my goal was to do that room in blue and white. I wanted all white linens with blue accents and thought about painting the room blue. Little did I know I would get what I wanted, I just did not know that it would be through a new life and our future son!! It has been super exciting getting all of this together. I know David was exhausted on Saturday night but then we decided to go ahead and put his crib together so by 10:00 p.m. we had his crib in the room. I hope you enjoy the pictures we have posted. Just keep in mind there is still a queen size bed in the room and no mattress in the crib but all in all we had a very productive weekend in prepping for Trey's arrival!

Our first shower!

On Sunday, March 15th David and I had our first shower at Sevierville Baptist Church! We had an amazing time and received many wonderful gifts. The shower was given by lots of amazing women- Amber Alfonso, Casey Blazek, Devee and Lexie Henry, Jodi Lamb, Candace Moon, Kristen Sims, and Karen and Morgan Sutton. We had a wonderful turnout and David and I have been going through presents and writing LOTS of thank you notes!!! Trey is going to have lots of special people in his life and that was evident by the generosity of so many!

Getting the Nursery Ready!!

So the excitement has begun! David picked up "Little Man's" crib a couple of weeks ago and it sits in a very large box out in the sunroom!! Uncle Kevin helped David carry it up our interesting steps at the condo!! Memommy has been making all of the baby's bedding and has been sewing like crazy for the past two weeks. Last night (March 15th) we were able to hang up his custom window treatment!! David has been a trouper working around the house!! We are going to be extremely busy getting EVERYTHING in order in the next 6- 10 weeks!! We now have decided that we are going to have to paint the nursery- Can't have too much color clashing!! Stay tuned to see what we come up with!

Introducing to family and friends...

We recently decided to announce the name of "Little Man" to family and friends. In late January, early February we decided to narrow down our list of 13 names to 2 each. David brought his 2 names to the table and I brought my 2 names. David had chosen David Michael Youell III and Trevor Alexander. I had David Michael Youell III and Jake/Jacob Ellis Youell (after my mother's father). We matched with one so decided on Trey. It has truly been a joy for David and I to just talk to Trey and share those moments together. We read to him, play music for him, tell him about his family, and watch him kick around in my tummy!! He is an active little guy.

Getting Settled, part 2!

My mom came to Knoxville over the weekend to attend the shower but in the meantime has been sewing like crazy making all of TREY's bedding and making window treatments for our dining room!! She has a special talent to do this and does a lot of things for my sisters and I. I am so grateful that she has this talent!! David and I also purchased new dining room chairs a short time ago. We refurbished Grandmother Carrie's dining room suit she gave us so the room is SLOWLY starting to come together! I guess all those years of sewing clogging costumes and pageant outfits has paid off!!! Stay tuned to see her work in Trey's nursery!

For those that know me, you know that I LOVE pictures! Just ask any of my current and former students. I like to take pictures of everything! So when the opportunity presented itself to have pregnancy pictures made, I was not going to pass it up. Our cousins, Jodi and Amber, had both had pictures made together when they were pregnant and were going to have their little girls, Sophie and Karlee, photographed with Erin Cantrell Photography! Erin is an absolute sweetheart and is working to get her business up and running so needless to say we were able to get a great deal!! Erin was so patient as we literally had a day of photography between the Youell, Alfonso, Lamb, and Sutton families. Hope you enjoy some of the pics as much as David and I had taking them (Big Brother, TED E. BEAR, even made some of the pics)!! Enjoy.

The Big Day: Finding out the sex of the baby!

So December 30th, 2008 is a day we will remember forever. Both our mothers came to Knoxville to go to the doctor with us to find out the sex of the baby!! We were all so excited. Joan, Mary Nelle, and I all went to lunch at the Silver Spoon Cafe. Then we went to look around at Me and Mommy to Be (a cute baby boutique in Knoxville). I bought a t-shrit that says, "Does this baby make my butt look big!" and wore it to the doctor. David met us at Baptist West as he was driving in from Nashville!! We were all called back to the ultrasound room and then our tech started checking things out!! It was very obvious what we were having!! A BOY!! Plain and clear!! The 3 women all started crying!! It was a wonderful and joyous moment that we will remember FOREVER!!

Getting settled in K- town!

As you all know, the first year of marriage for David and I was a distant one. Living apart for essentially the first year of marriage was not our ideal start but has proven to be a good test for us and has made our relationship that much stronger. In August 2008, we purchased a condo in a great area of Knoxville! Two days after closing, we left for Myrtle Beach to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!! So now we are in the process of still unpacking boxes, trying to decorate and settling here and building our life together in Knoxville. For all those still interested, we still have a house for sale in Murfreesboro!! Fortunately, Aunt KaKa and Uncle Joel recently moved to Murfreesboro and are renting our house! We are so thankful for them at this time. We are loving it here and most importantly we love that we are now finally able to be together as husband and wife. Stay tuned for more wonderful posts!
